2014 The Run To The Rose May Figure for Harrier Jet

July 16th, 2014

Returning to the spelling paddock after finishing fifth in the Australian Turf Club 2.y.o (1000m) at Warwick Farm on debut in early autumn, trainer Chris Waller is eyeing major three-year-old events for talented gelding Harrier Jet during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival after a resounding victory first-up on July 9th.

Jumping from the gates well, the Dane Shadow gelding sat in ideal position on the heels of the early leaders over the back straight and rounding the bend in the TAB Early Quaddie Plate (1200m) at Canterbury before comfortably spooling up and finding the line a length in the clear of Crimson God; resounding favourite to win on debut for Darley.

With the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 13th the obvious option in Sydney for the rising three-year-old should be continue to perform well, it is the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) on August 30th that is likely to figure as a pivotal form guide for the Rosehill-based trainer.

Understandably pleased with Harrier Jet’s performance on July 9th, Waller said he was far-better for the debut run in February but is yet to set a spring path in stone.

“To the horse’s credit, that was his first ever preparation when we got him to the races last time,” Waller told Racenet of the less-than-convincing fifth placing.

“We had a bit of an opinion of him and he just struck a wet track that day and he’s come back and just had the one trial and I thought his trial was good and he obviously looks fit enough. Having a bit of ability helps as well.

“A very professional horse; the product of the Dane Shadows are ready-made racehorses and win races.”
