Smart Missile Wins 2011 The Run To The Rose Results

August 29th, 2011

Anthony Cummings’ explosive three-year-old Smart Missile confirmed their favouritism for the upcoming Golden Rose Stakes with a blistering first-up win in The Run To The Rose 2011 at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, August 27.

Taking their career record to a flawless three wins from three starts, Fastnet Rock colt Smart Missile displayed an incredible turn of foot and commanding late burst of acceleration to get out of trouble and come from behind to win in the $125,000 Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) in their new season debut.

Famous for being the only horse to date to get the better of Golden Slipper winner Sepoy, Smart Missile ($1.70F) was ridden by former Melbourne Cup winning hoop Glen Boss on Saturday for their quarter-length win over the also impressive John O’Shea-trained Foxwedge ($4.60).

Finishing off the winning The Run To The Rose trifecta a further length away was Peter Snowden’s dual Group 1 winner Helmet ($6), while the Neveille Layt-trained Karuta Queen ($11) finished the best of the fillies in fourth.

Smart Missile, who has now won over $315,000 for connections, has firmed dramatically in the odds for the opening Group 1 race of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

They now sit as the raging $2.20 favourite for the 2011 Golden Rose at Luxbet, the $1 million feature to light up Rosehill on September 10.

After Saturday’s Rosehill race result, Smart Missile has now also surpassed Helmet as the 2011 Caulfield Guineas favourite paying $6 to take out the October Melbourne Spring Feature through Luxbet, Helmet following closely at odds of $6.50.
