Gai Waterhouse’s unbeaten colt Squamosa has emerged as the clear pre-race favourite in the Ladbrokes.com.au markets for this Saturday’s $125,000 Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1300m) at Rosehill.
A 12-horse field of the nation’s top three-year-olds will take to the track for the 2010 The Run To The Rose in the lead-up to Sydney’s richest spring feature, the $1 million Golden Rose on August 28.
Not A Single Doubt colt Squamosa has won both of his career starts and is the short-priced favourite to take out The Run To The Rose at $2 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The other top elect at $4.20 odds for this Saturday’s showdown is Masquerader.
Drawn well in barrier six and due to be ridden by Glyn Schofield, the David Payne-trained Masquerader also boasts a perfect record of two from two but could be another high profile defector following Hinchinbrook’s withdrawal from the Run To The Rose if the wet weather in Sydney continues.
Another horse getting plenty of money come in from the punters is Tim Martin’s Group 1 placegetter Sasa.
The classy filly had her last race start back in April when running second to Skilled in the Champagne Stakes, but Martin is also sweating on the weather before deciding whether to run Sasa on Saturday.
If either Masquerader or Sasa are withdrawn from the race, Squamosa’s odds will shorten further as the favourite has won both of his starts on a heavy track and will be near impossible to beat in the wet.
$2 Ladbrokes.com.au favourite Squamosa has won both his starts on a heavy track and will be hard to beat in the wet
