On Saturday the action and betting excitement of the 2010 Sydney Spring Racing Carnival will begin to heat up as Rosehill Racecourse hosts the $125,000 Group 3 Run To The Rose (1300m).
Nineteen talented three-year-olds have been nominated for the 2010 Run To The Rose, many having their first-up season start as they head towards the rich spring features.
One horse nominated for the event that was sure to dominate the Ladbrokes.com.au Run To The Rose betting markets but who will now miss the event is the Gerald Ryan-trained Hinchinbrook.
Fastnet Rock colt Hinchinbrook has won two 900m barrier trials over the past month, showing he is in top form and ready for a successful spring campaign.
In a blow for Hinchinbrook that angered Ryan, however, the colt was handicapped a hefty topweight of 59.5kg for the Spring Stakes.
Ryan has said he will not run Hinchinbrook in the Spring Stakes due to the weight and will instead put him against the older horses in the Starlight Stakes (1100m) at the same meeting.
With Hinchinbrook out excellent chances to win the 2010 Spring Stakes worth checking out their odds at Ladbrokes.com.au include David Payne’s unbeaten colt Masquerader, the Bart Cummings-trained Kudakulari, and Champagne Stakes runner-up Sasa.
Another unbeaten colt ready to defend their flawless record is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Squamosa.
A winner of both their race starts, the promising runner is worth a punt on and could win at good odds through Ladbrokes.com.au.
The Run To The Rose is the traditional lead-up race for three-year-olds heading towards the Sydney Spring Carnival’s richest event, the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on August 28.
Squamosa is Waterhouse’s leading hope for the 2010 Golden Rose and a win on Saturday would be the ideal preparation.
The final field of acceptances for the 2010 Run To The Rose will be released later in the week and we will be the first to publish the list so bookmark this page.
This weekend features a top range of other Group races including the Group 2 JJ Liston Stakes (1400m) and Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, and the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.
